Where full demineralization is not required, the dissolved solids causing “hard water” can be selectively removed using strong cation ion exchange resin. This process is called softening and is used mainly for boiler and cooling tower make-up water.
The resin is regularly regenerated using coarse salt, and thus any effluent produced is only a strong brine solution.
Ametis Projects produce a wide range of water softening plants, from small “domestic type” plants, to full size industrial plants for the pulp & paper industry.
Most plants, are fully automated in operation by time clock or mini PLC, and can be designed for operating temperature in excess of 70 deg. C.
